How to ship your car from Manila to Cebu via 2GO Rolling Cargo

Last week, I had quite an anxious experience with trying to send my car from Manila to Cebu via rolling cargo. I’ve tried searching the internet for a step-by-step guide but I couldn’t find anything, so I thought I’d lay it down here for anyone who wants to ship their vehicles from Manila to Cebu, or to any port in the country, really.

I did my car shipment via 2GO Rolling Cargo and the process is not as straightforward so I hope this guide can help you out!

Book an appointment

  1. Call 2GO Rolling Cargo to book your car shipment. Their contact number is 02-8-528-7400 and they accept calls from Mondays to Saturdays, 8AM to 7PM. You can also email them at 2GO_Freight@2GO.com.ph.
  2. Upon calling, they will ask for some details about your vehicle including the declared value, so that they can provide the estimated shipping cost. They will also ask you your planned shipment date (you can check with them the earliest or nearest schedule to your planned date). You also need to provide the details of the person receiving the car at the port of destination.
  3. After booking, they will provide you with a booking reference number. You will also receive a text message with the booking and schedule information.

Dropping off your car at the port

As much as I wish that they have a pick-up service so that it’s less hassle for customers to ship their vehicles – they don’t. You have to do everything by yourself and it is at this point that things become confusing or you get lost in the process so let’s get to it.

Before leaving for the port, make sure you bring the requirements and the payment (note that they only accept cash) with you. You only need to bring a photocopy of the OR/CR, the deed of sale if it’s second hand and the delivery receipt/sales invoice if your vehicle is brand new. Bring a bit more cash than the estimated amount since this could change depending on the actual measurement done on site.

  1. Drive your vehicle on the scheduled date and time to Pier 2 North Harbor, Zaragoza Gate. Click here for the Google Pin. Plan to arrive earlier if you want to finish early. I got there on time and there were already several people ahead of me! Ask the guard at the entrance where to go, and he’ll instruct you to head to the second building after you turn left from the entrance gate. Park your car outside the building, go in and approach the guard at the 2GO booth for the next steps. He will give you some forms to fill out. A 2GO staff will also inspect your vehicle parked outside and take measurements. After this, you will wait in line at the cashier to proceed with the payment.
  2. Take your documents to the white container van across the Zaragoza gate entrance. Give it to the guy in the counter and he will give you another document based on the car measurements taken earlier. He will tell you to proceed to Pier 16 for the next step but will not really explain in detail.
  3. Take your car, exit Zaragoza gate and head towards Pier 16 but not really to Pier 16. You can search for MNHPI Corporate Office on Google Maps instead. Click here for the Google Pin (refer to image below for Step 3). Inform the guard that you are processing your Rolling Cargo documents. There is ample parking here! Enter the right most side of the building (where there’s an aisle of counters/windows). Go to the last window and submit your document. Once they give it back to you, go to the first window on that same isle (Philippine Port Authority window) and give them your documents. They will return it to you after stamping or signing. To be honest, I don’t know what they do here exactly – and I was super lost. Good thing this old man saw me and helped me out for a tip of 20 pesos.
  4. Go back to Zaragoza gate and get your car weighed. The weighing toll is across the first building you entered. Go up the ramp and give your documents to the guy in the booth. He will give you a gate pass.
  5. After weighing, drive your car inside the pier back to the area where the white container van is. Park your car and bring the complete documents and the car keys to the person manning the white container van. He will inspect the car one last time and give you back your copy of the documents. This completes the drop-off process.
Steps 1-2; 4 and 5
Step 3.

Going home

Obviously, since you don’t have a car anymore, book a Grab or a taxi on your way home! It takes a while to book a Grab due to the location so patience is key!

You will receive text messages once the vessel carrying your vehicle has departed. You will also receive another text message upon arrival. Make sure to have the recipient collect the vehicle in the same day (before 4PM) to avoid extra charges. My car arrived in Cebu on time without any issues so at least you can rely on 2GO to safely deliver your vehicle.

      1. What ia your cars model? Sedan or suv? How much was the fee all in all? What docs will thw receipient show to claim the vehicle?

        1. It’s a ford escape, suv, and paid around 26k. Recipient will need to show valid ID and bill of lading # upon claiming.

          1. Hello may I ask if the 26K that you paid for is comes from the weigh of your car or is it from the car amount?

    1. Thank you for taking the time to document the steps. Many times, things are not always well marked or instructions are vague. Great job in the details.

    1. I finished around 12noon because I wasted time looking for “pier 16” and asking the guard at the first building each time for the next steps.

        1. hi sir! i don’t have the details since my friend picked it up for me. but what i know is that he got a text message from 2GO with the instructions on how to get the car. 🙂

  1. Hi, thanks for the tip! Were you allowed to leave anything in the car? Planning to have a couple of light but bulky items in the trunk

    1. They’ll ask you to emtpy your car, except for car tools. 🙁 But I was able to leave some cds in the front compartment.

      1. Hi. So its different now. Five years ago, they let us have a big box inside full of our personal things with no additional cost. Sad….

    1. No more payment upon receiving the car, just need to show the ID of the receiver and the bill of lading #. Just ensure to pick up before the time indicated on the text message so that you don’t incur additional fees.

        1. It’s the document proving the shipment. Yes, I sent the Bill of Lading # and also a photo of the document to be sure. 🙂

  2. Hi! Thanks so much for this! You noted that there are forms that need to be filled out at the Pier. May I know if these are personal information? Or just information about the vehicle? Also would you know if you can send an authorized representative to send the car for you? 🙂

    1. Just the name, if I remember correctly. You only need to show the OR/CR and reqts mentioned above so I believe you can send a representative (or book under the representative’s name already)? Best to confirm with 2go when you call. 🙂

    1. You’ll need to drop the car at the port 3 days before shipping I think, then it arrives the next day (depending on the destination).

  3. Hi sir ,thank you for the tip. Do you have any idea if they will allow a motorcycle to be shipped without OR/CR and just the Delivery receipt, LTO Undertaking and sales invoice( bought by the 1st owner last July 31 2020 and I bought his bike last Dec 2020) since the OR CR still not available as per the dealer.(almost 7 months now).

  4. Hello sir! I would like to ask if the 26k you paid is a big car (montero, fortuner, etc) or small car (mirage, vios, etc.) planning to send in bacolod, small car. Thank you!

    1. The assessed value for my Mu-X 2020 was a whooping 43K. Is that fair? I will still have to assess my Innova 2016. I hope it wouldn’t cost much. Would you know if there are alternative? I was informed that Bogo- Batangas (roro, travel with the vehicle) costs around 16,500

      1. Wow that’s expensive! 🙁 I’ve read that shipping costs in general have increased significantly the past year (x2 to x5 even). Perhaps it’s better to drive the car yourself via Roro, although I don’t have updated rates.

  5. Hi Sir very informative planning to drive mine via bicol sama and leyte to cebu but with 26K or 30k the most I changed my mind better send it 2GO.

Thank you for sharing your experience and the contacts. God bless you!

    1. Happy to help! I also had the same concern before. Specially now that different provinces may have different requirements due to COVID, it’s easier to just ship it and not worry about anything! 🙂

    1. Ah, for this one, they don’t accept traveling with the car, although not sure if you can book a ticket to be on the same boat ride (it’s not the same team handling the shipping and the passengers).

  6. Hello, thanks for the very informative read. Was your car intact (ie no issues like dent, scratches etc that might be from the shipment) when it arrived at the destination?

    1. Yes it was intact, I had no issues! They also check for dents/scratches before you turn over the car to them for shipping. 🙂

      1. Hello, thanks for the feedback. Further, in their email, it says “The driver should be at pier for loading 6 hours prior the vessel’s estimate time of departure.” Was this the case with you? Because initially i thought you’ll jist drop off the car then that’s it.

        1. This wasn’t the case with me. I’m not sure if they changed the process already as of the posting of this…but maybe you can clarify with them. I had to drop off the car ahead and didn’t need to be there during the vessel departure at all.

          1. Hi jerkert .. saan po ang ibang destination ng rolling cargo may pa iligan city ba or cagayan de oro?

  7. Hi Jekert is 2GO accepting sedan like vios? Tried to book for rolling cargo but they raised issue with the ground clearance I indicated in the form. Ground clearance of vios is just almost 6 inches.

    1. I think so, some of the cars I saw were even smaller (Wigo). But to be sure, best to call them! 🙂

  8. Hey bro, thank u for a very informative read. I’ve shipped my car already to cebu, problem is they have not informed me which pier in cebu i should head to to claim my car. Ive emailed concerned departments as to the information I need and called hotlines (which is always busy) to no avail.
Saan sa cebu ma cclaim ang car bro?
    Thank you for your response.

    1. Hi! The recipient should receive a text message on the instructions where and when to claim. I’m not sure exactly where as it was my friend who picked it up, but let me check.

    2. My friend said in Pier 4 but there’s a separate entrance. Just ask the guard where to pick up 2go rolling cargo. 🙂

    1. i wasn’t able to compile the cost but if i’m not mistaken, it would have taken around 10-15k or more (considering 2 ferries, gas, and maybe one night along the road to rest). i took the cargo route because this was during the height of the pandemic where it was difficult to cross borders and each city had different requirements to enter.

  9. Just want to leave an update on my experience today. Last year, I went through the process exactly described in this blog. Today, it was totally different. After confirming my booking, I was assigned a contact person (a liaison?) to get in touch with once I’m at Pier 4. The office is now located on the first building to the left of Zaragoza gate (2GO Travel Ticketing office). I met with the contact person, gave him photocopies of my OR/CR, delivery receipt, and driver’s license. Then he did all the work of having it processed at 2GO _and_ going to MNHPI building. After that, he instructed me to have my car weighed then proceeded to the white container van/office for a final inspection. I then moved the car to a designated slot where all rolling cargos will stay until the start of their journey. The process took about an hour to finish. My Grab ride back home took longer than that.

    1. Hi! May i ask po na nung recent nga shipment mo, how many days does it take sa arrival ng car mo dto sa cebu or vice versa? Thanks

      1. Not sure now but based on the process before, you need to leave the car 3 days before the shipment date and then dadating naman sya within 24 hours from departure.

        1. I see. But does it have to wait some time na ma full daw yung rolling cargo before sha mag depart? Thanks po

          1. Wala syang ganun dati, kung ano schedule, same lang although pwdeng madelay by a few mins/hours.

  10. Followed these steps last week, this site was really helpful! I shipped my car, Montero 2013 and I paid a total of ~36k.

To add on the Pier 16 processing on step 3, the windows that you would need to go to would be window 2 – where they would stamp one copy of your BOL, and window 25 – where they would get one copy of your BOL for encoding.

I personally claimed my car in Cebu, below are the steps that I did:
NOTE: Please ensure that you are wearing closed shoes!

    1. Go to the Pier 4 entrance – can be searched easily through Waze/Google Maps, just tell the guard that you will be claiming your 2Go rolling cargo and show the BOL. They will charge you 10 pesos for a temporary visitor pass.

    2. From the entrance you can only turn left, before you go to the 2Go claiming site, immediately right after the entrance you will see the Cebu Port Authority building which is painted orange on the left side. Tell the guard here that you will get a single entry pass – you will need this before you can exit the Pier with your vehicle. You will need to pay 112 pesos here for the single entry pass.
The guard here wouldn’t let us in initially since we were only wearing sandals, so we had to leave the port to get shoes!

    3. Once you’ve gotten your single entry pass, just follow the road again to reach the 2Go claiming site on the right side. It is quite far from the entrance of Pier 4, you will pass the Pier 5 entrance, and it is already near the Pier 6 exit. You can ask the people around here on where it is, they are friendly!

    4. From here they will just ask you to enter a container van on the right part of the site. In here just show the BOL/BOL number and a valid ID and they will process your release documents.

    5. Once you’ve received your release documents from 2Go, exit the container van and go to another container van on the left for the cargo inspectors. They would check and validate your 2Go documents and would be providing another set of release slips. Once done you can now go to your car which should be parked just outside. Show the guard the single entry pass that you payed for, and the release documents from the cargo inspector, then you should be good to go!

    Hope this helps!
