Dora-Koi for my empty heart

So, I’ve finally found a replacement for the empty space in my heart that used to be occupied by Terrace House. As someone who lives vicariously through the lives of others, reality shows, specifically Japanese reality shows, hold a special place in my heart for several reasons.

  1. I get to immerse myself in the Japanese language, the casual conversational kind not taught by books.
  2. I also get to learn about Japanese culture and way of thinking — if that makes sense.
  3. You sort of form a “friendship” with the members, even if it’s just one way. Haha!

Renai Dorama na Koi ga Shitai (literally I want to fall in love like in romance dramas), or Dora-Koi for short, is a reality show about up and coming actors who fall in love with other members while trying to shoot short dramas. Each of the episode would have a kissing scene, and it’s interesting to see how their feelings evolve over time. I find myself rooting for pairs who’ve stuck with each other since the beginning. It’s hard to put into words, but this show basically allows you to see how complex “love” is, how different people would react (or not react) to their feelings, and how these feelings basically change with just a kiss. Haha.

You just need to watch it for yourself to understand what I mean. The only thing I hate about this show is the female narrator’s whispering voice. I don’t think it’s necessary but aside from that, I enjoyed the show. I’m on the last episode of the 2nd season. I binge-watched it over the weekend and if not for work today, I would have finished everything already! Good thing tomorrow’s a holiday! Haha. I can’t wait to find out who ends up together for S2!
