I am not a music man, in the sense that I don’t really create my own music – but I am a music man, in the sense that I feel incomplete without it. I can’t imagine life without music. And because I love music so much, I listen to all types of music, from all genres, and in any language.

So much so, when a song speaks the language I grew up with – Bisaya.

The thing about Bisaya music is that it’s as resilient as the Bisaya soul. It’s tough existing in a music industry that’s dominated by artists/bands from the capital, who naturally sing songs in English or Filipino (Tagalog). Still, to a Cebuano, or to someone who’s natural tongue is Bisaya – songs written and sung in our dear dialect hit spots in our hearts that songs in any other language can’t.

Vispop is back again this year with new Bisaya songs that tickle your Bisaya hearts. To be honest, I haven’t listened to the songs from the first batch (I am ashamed to say this but I’ve been listening to too much KPOP since last year – kill me). This time though, I stumbled upon some videos from this channel in Youtube, took time to listen to these new songs, and rediscovered my passion for Bisaya music (throwing back to my Bisrock addiction days).

So here goes my two favorite songs from this batch – just because I love catchy melodies and playful lyrics that really show the Cebuano sense of humor (which can never be translated into any other language). If you’re Bisaya and haven’t listened to these, click the play button, it’ll take you around 10 minutes of your time to do your fellow Bisaya artists a favor. If you like it – spread the word to your other Bisaya friends who might not be aware. If you’re not Bisaya – listen to it still (take that from the guy who listens to Japanese, Korean music without understanding them). Music, after all, are emotions put into sound. Sometimes you just feel it and it affects you without the need for words.
