Tokyo Spring 2018 – Day 3 Part 1: Tokyo Tower, One Piece & Shiba Park!
I woke up late today (past 10 AM) because I slept late from blogging two days worth of posts. My morning itinerary was supposed to be Shinjuku Gyoen but since I’ve been there before, and since I’ve had enough Sakura from the other day, I decided to skip it for today.
Morning
I went up to the common room for my quick breakfast – bulletproof coffee from the convenient store – complete with grassfed butter and MCT oil! I also had instant miso soup but I forgot about it because it was almost lunch time. I had to catch a show at 2PM so I was running late already!
Daimon Street/Zozoji Temple
As my first stop is Tokyo Tower, I decided to pass by one of my favorite streets in Tokyo, Daimon street. There are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops along this road, leading up to Zozoji temple, where you can get a nice view of Tokyo Tower in the background! Since I was in a hurry, I postponed eating, especially when I found out that there is a Legendary Raid right in front of the Zozoji Temple gate.
After I got my first Lugia of the day, I crossed the street towards Zozoji Temple. Look at the view inside!
Tokyo Tower!
After looking around for a short while, I proceeded on heading to Tokyo Tower. The path right beside this has a magnificent view of the tower, as it is lined up with Sakura! Each time the wind blows, little sakura petals would fall, and I would sing Sakura Drops to myself.
One Piece at Tokyo Tower!
There’s actually two reasons why I came to Tokyo Tower today. One is of course, to see it in Spring (with the cherry blossoms), and two, I bought a pass to the One Piece Tokyo Tower Park and LIVE attraction. I’m not a super big fan of One Piece, but I have read and seen a few chapters of the manga and anime. To be honest, After this experience, I felt like I should spend more time catching up again on One Piece!
The first feature of the Park was a 360-video of One Piece, featuring the new song from GReeeeN. Despite not being a big fan, I actually had goosebumps and almost shed a tear from the experience! That alone was worth the 1,500 pesos I spent on this! HAHA. Unfortunately, no photography and videography for that specific part, so you have to see it for yourself (if you’re a fan).
Inside, there are some life-size statues of the characters, and different shows/activities. This could be a lot of fun for kids, but for adults, again, unless you’re a big fan, not so much. I spent time taking photos, and skipping out on some of the activities due to pressed time. I just wanted to see the Live attraction!
There are 3 floors in total, with the Live Attraction (scheduled at specific hours throughout the day) on the 5th floor. You can also get a photo op with the Live characters but I imagined the print would be quite expensive. I spent some thirty minutes going around, before the 2PM Live show.
One Piece Live Performance Show!
The moment for the Live performance to start finally arrived! We were led inside a room with a “bar” as a stage, and a few seats. I regret not standing up at the back because they were strict in terms of taking photos at “eye-level” so as not to disturb the ones behind you. The person at my front was tall, and his head was blocking my eye-level so, my photos weren’t that good. Anyhow, I was impressed with how realistic the characters are, they could pass for a real live action movie casting!
As expected, the entire thing is in Japanese, so context clues if you’re not at all familiar with the language. Basically, they are having a party, then Buggy crashes and attacks them for revenge, bringing along a strong ally. They get into a fight, almost loses, and then Luffy somehow beats them with the help of Ace (as his inspiration).
And as a *spoiler*, guess who appears in the flesh at the end?
The show went on for 30 minutes maybe, after which I got really hungry already. This was now around 3PM and my only meal had been this morning’s bulletproof coffee. I had thought of completing the experience by eating at either of the One Piece restaurants/cafe at the ground floor of Tokyo Tower, but I felt they were expensive (you know, my budget cut because of the Internet). I decided to eat outside, but before that – I wanted to pass by Shiba Park.
On the way out, these guys passed by, waving at everyone like they were celebrities. Good for Tokyo, they can manage to add carting activities on the main road because they don’t have traffic!
Shiba Park
Going back to Daimon Street from Tokyo Tower, I decided to go the longer route to pass by more cherry blossoms in Shiba Park. The last time I passed by here, around February last year, there was barely anyone in the park. Today, there were more people than trees! It’s ironic how Hanami is for gathering and celebration with friends, eating and drinking under the trees – and I’m all alone! I want to do a real Hanami, too!
I could only pass by in envy, as my stomach rumbles with hunger. Just kidding, I can imagine how non-Keto hanami must be! I took a few more photos of Tokyo Tower, and other interesting things I passed by along the way.
I finally got back to Daimon street, and guess what I get for lunch?
This could have been Keto but I ate the rice. Because I was sooo hungry! Part 2 in the next post!
