I woke up with a bit of hangover from the night before. I was initially planning on working from home, but I found out that the team was planning for a late birthday surprise, so I went to the office instead!

It’s funny how I found out about it. Our new hire just had his birthday last Sunday so it was supposed to be his surprise. My friend asked me if I would come in for that, and I did not get an invite for a birthday celebration, so I said I would think about it. Then – a fake meeting invite from my manager arrived inviting me and our new hire to a triad. For your info, this new hire (Bryan) is my replacement so I am currently transitioning my work to him. The fake meeting’s agenda was to discuss the status of the transition.

Since I did not know that there would be a surprise, I received an invite for a triad on the same time, and, I did not get a cake from my team last month (my birthday was more than a month ago) – I put two and two together and figured out that they’d be surprising me, too! Long story short, I went to the office and played along. Haha.

I told my friend (who ruined the surprise for me – name, Joseph) that it would be hard to fake a surprised expression! Still, I was filled with joy when they barged into the room with cakes and a song. I appreciate the warm greetings and the “love” (LOL) my team and friends showed me today! Thank you guys and may we have more fun moments together!
